It’s impossible to turn on the news, scroll through social media, or even listen to conversations at the grocery store without hearing about fear. Families today face uncertainty—economic instability, illness, social pressures, and global challenges. As parents, we want to shield our children from these anxieties, but the truth is: the world will always contain uncertainty.
At Divine Redeemer School, we believe the answer isn’t to avoid fear, but to teach our children how to respond with faith.
What the Bible Says About Fear
The Bible offers us timeless truth: “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear may be natural, but it doesn’t have to define us.
Another verse families often lean on is Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.” These words remind us that when children feel afraid—whether of a test at school, a thunderstorm, or changes at home—they can turn to God’s promises for strength.
How We Teach Faith Over Fear at School
At Divine Redeemer, faith is not just taught—it is lived. We integrate Scripture and prayer into every part of the day. Students begin and finish the day with prayer, attend Mass weekly, and have opportunities to reflect on the Gospel throughout their classes. When difficult topics come up, our teachers guide conversations back to God’s truth.
For example:
Classroom discussions often include how saints showed faith in times of fear.
Prayer partners remind students that they are not alone in their struggles.
Scripture memorization equips children with verses they can call to mind when they feel anxious.
How Families Can Live This at Home
Parents can model living by faith at home by:
Reading Bible stories together, like David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), which show courage through trust in God.
Saying nightly prayers that include giving worries to God.
Sharing testimonies of times when faith helped overcome challenges.
Living by Faith, Not by Fear
When we choose faith over fear, we give our children a gift far greater than comfort—we give them the foundation of courage, hope, and joy that will last a lifetime.
At Divine Redeemer School, we walk together in this journey. In a world full of fear, we remind our families: faith is our anchor, and God’s love is our refuge. More About Divine Redeemer Catholic School
